Samuel’s Values
I define this in two ways. One, this pertains to the ability to tell the boss that he or she is wrong because his or her method is unethical or ineffective. Two, it encompasses the ability to hold yourself accountable for correct behavior when no one is looking.
You must be willing to do whatever it takes, assuming it is ethical and legal, in order to succeed. No buts, because excuses do not live here, nor are they tolerated. As the saying goes, when you need to succeed as much as you need to breathe, those are when new heights are reached.
This is a mix of two values, but they remain so interconnected that I treat them as one. I want employees and managers that are cunning enough to find alternatives to difficult situations and are shrewd enough to outsmart the competition and take pride in overcoming adversity. Furthermore, I want managers and leadership to find new methods, technology, concepts, and ideas. You may not have to reinvent the wheel, but I expect my leadership to reinvent how one comes together, and I expect my leadership to make alterations to make the wheel more efficient.
Life is an adventure, finding new challenges and experiences for yourself and those subordinate to you make it worth living. Growing as an individual and helping those underneath you to grow is the greatest of rewards.
The ability to listen to the ideas from both above and below you and to value them equally. Moreover, its definition is that you accept when you fail and commit to doing better next time. Squelching, giving lip service, being unable to take criticism is the greatest of failures and diminishes motivation.
